What is
homeopathy ? Homeopathy is a system of medicine based on the treatment of a patient as an individual. Physical, emotional and mental characteristics, previous history and family history are all considered carefully to form a "picture" of the whole person. From this, appropriate Homeopathic medicine is then chosen to match the picture. Disease is simply the body's way of showing that it is out of balance at some level and each individual expresses this differently. Homeopathy recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment and not the disease. Treatment is then used to assist the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. This means that there is no single Homeopathic cure for a particular disease but a range, chosen individually to suit the patient. Current Homeopathy has its foundations in the work over 200 years ago of a German doctor called Samuel Hahnemann who discovered a different approach to the cure of the sick, which he called Homeopathy (from the Greek words meaning "similar suffering"). The way of similars is to give the patient a minute dose of a substance such as coffee, which in large doses causes sleeplessness in a healthy person. Surprisingly, this will enable the patient to sleep naturally. What can cause can cure - like will be treated with like. In order to find the right remedy for you as an individual, homeopaths need to know all about you. Initial consultations are very detailed and often last for one and a half hours or more. It goes without saying that anything you discuss with your Homeopath will be treated in the strictest of confidence. The length of treatment depends very much on the sort of illness as well as the other individual characteristics of the case.
